If you periodically travel from your home country, how has it changed?

For those of you who travel between the Philippines and your Home Country periodically, how has Covid disrupted your plans? How long are you prepared to postpone or delay travel either way?

I thought this would be an interesting question. I was in the Philippines from Dec to mid-January last year, and I think I caught Covid in hong-kong on the way back. (3-4 days of high fever, cough, weakness, and shortness of breath for 3-5 weeks after. Had to constantly suck hard candy while away to keep from coughing, and was so weak).

I work 100% remote, and the fevers/hills only spiked after sunset... so I was able to work through it without taking time off. I dismissed it as the worst flu I'd ever had.

I'd hoped to return this Holiday season or in Feb/March for 30-45 days.

However, I'm thinking of skipping returns during 2021. Everyone was so sick at the 10 hour layover at Hong Kong (mid-March).

I'm also thinking that I'll pay the $200-250 premium to fly Philippine Airlines (PAL) so I can fly directly from San Fransciso or Seattle to Manilla. PAL has a monopoly on direct international flights from the US, and I observed a huge quality difference between PAL and Cathy Pacific (and travel through China).

I'm at the point in my life where the difference in price is irritating, but it won't cause a hardship.

So, that's how it's affected me. I'll skip travel in 2021. I'll probably pay more to fly PAL directly to Philippines to avoid China and Cathy Pacific.

How about you? How are your plans affected, and what do you intend to do differently?
