Shipping Stuff

After I move, I will want to have a bunch of clothes shipped over. It doesn't seem smart to lug them all over until I settle in somewhere. But what's the best way to pack them? Does customs open every box/shipping container? Do I have to leave them so they can be opened or do I lock the container whatever it is?
