Why do most would-be-expats tend to settle by the beaches rather than a high elevation place?

I asked this since most would-be-expats I've come across and on forums like this are looking for places by the ocean. I live in the Sierra Madre mountain ranges in Rizal where the climate is nuch cooler. Lots of wooded areas., springs, rivers, etc... Do they see something living by the ocean that I've missed?
