Looking at all the issues a third tier country has day to day when a natural disaster hits it just makes it awful. For expats what are some guidance or recommendations for those who ride the storm out at there homes of flee a safe haven.
I survived hurricane Andrews being from Miami and growing up poor we had nothing so we fleed the area but I was thinking of some options to have due to the issues I see now in the Phillipines.
1. Money on hand due to lost of power and western Union being a high option and ATMs unserviceable
2. Generators not sure brands and size but anyone willing to drop recommendations and where to buy from I think will help. Many didn’t or do not have the option to simply charge cell phones etc
3. Potable water maybe even water stocked up prior to versus what I see now with people searching for water after the fact. This could go for self and or helping others in need. Maybe a water filtration system triple filtered? A deep well for emergency purposes?
4. Vehicle type such as a 4x4 such as what we saw in my days patrolling Afghan the Hillux Toyota type to transport goods or people in and out or for self to evacuate as roads and clearing is slow after storms?
5. Medical kits
6. Electrical chain saw for faster clearing?
Just my thoughts about recommendations of what I see now versus what I saw in 2013 transporting goods in and out after the yolanda storm where we flew in and evacuated many to manila. I saw many flaws and I don’t see the government preparing well and just wondering what else could one expect moving to the Phil to better prepare for self or helping others drop some comments happy holidays
