I work in data security, so for me to be quiet vacationing and cause a security event would be pretty horrible. In the past I said I was on vacation and wouldn't attempt to log onto any admin accounts.
This time I have more clients and responsibilities and feel like I need to take the leap and keep up with work while in PH.
I did an esim conversion from my regular US phone, bought a PH sim in Manila Airport, 1600 pesos for 1 month with I think 72 GB, but you can only use so much per day. Should be fine. I only do email and management consoles. Both are low data usage.
Then bought Nord. The most expensive one because it has insurance. $18 for 30 days. Just enough.
I am 100% only using the laptop with a mobile hotspot from the cell phone to the laptop. Both the cell and laptop are using Nord. 2 different US servers. Is that right? Again, I am low data usage so it is slow but I am only working on emergency needs so I guess it is fine.
Other options might be only using Nord on the cell because the data flows through it? But the laptop version or Nord had additional malware and other protections.
So far my phone is working great with 2FA via authenticator apps. Since almost every portal I use has 2FA and to handle an issue may involve 6 portals, it is a lot of 2FAing, but it works. Happy with the auth apps because I don't seem to be getting US texts. Must be a setting I would change in the SIM area. Is it possible to get US and PH texts via wifi? I cannot use a 3rd party text app because of work security concerns, but could use a 3rd party app for the PH number. That is probably the way to go. Not sure about phone calls, but I try to never take calls anyways.
