Do we each need supporting documents when applying for the Schengen?

I have read through "Demystifying The Paper Trail" and also through the comments below the article and could not find my answer.

My husband and I are applying for our Type 1 Residency Visa. Since the supporting documents are the same for both of us, do they require separate supporting document packages for each of us? OR... Just one set of supporting documents with both of our applications attached?

We have emailed the embassy and have not received an answer. We are currently living in Thailand and are using the Portuguese Embassy in Bangkok.
