New to forum - Travelling extensively next year from Cascais NB to Porto

Hello all! I am new to the forum. I will be travelling with my wife and two kids (4 and 5 y/o) for 3 months next year through Portugal looking for a potential place to set roots – either in the future, or if I were to find a job and then settle down.

I would say our main objective would be to reside in a location that is both safe and kid friendly. Being near parks, attractions, access to nature, would be the most important. My wife would be able to work remote for her company based out of California and I would either look to find a corporate position in IT or really any job that struck my fancy. To be fair, this is the next part of my research that obviously requires a bit of time and concentration.

As far as finances are concerned, we would be looking for a place to rent that is somewhere between $1400 – $1800 USD /month or $2000 if we were really impressed.

I am used to and love a mediterranean climate, so that will likely be a factor when looking for a potential location to settle down.

Our 3 month trip I am torn between staying at Cascais for 1 month, Porto for 1 month, then Ciombra for 1 month as a for instance or if we should really being scoping out more spots while we have the opportunity. The cost of moving around too much might be missing out on a lax experience.

Any best practices or practical advise for both our 3 month trip or a potential “settle down” spot would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
Andrew
