STORAGE INSURANCE

4 years ago
 My shipment (13m3) arrived during the lockdown and was put in the storage by the shipping agent appointed here.     I received an email from the agent the other day concerning Insurance as the shipment was now considered long term for storage purposes and I was offered the following:

A - Take out  insurance with the Agent - since it was packed overseas and not by this local company, it will have to be opened and repacked here in their warehouse, and I must be present while this occurs. They will then issue a valorised inventory. The cost of this will be 325€ + VAT and 20€/m3 if new packing material is needed  and the insurance 0.45% plus vat of the inventory list;

 B - Sign a Waiver Agreement .   If I sign the waiver agreement.  I will be covered for civil liability insurance only.   I must include a copy of my insurance certificate and a detailed value inventory list.

My shipment insurance (from point of origin)  covered  a door to door service and OPITON A would void my shipping insurance - therefore not an option - aside from the costs associated and that the ship has been professionally packed already..

OPTION B: signing the Waiver Agreement  -  the goods have been in storage for 3 months already.        An inventory has already been provided as the agents handled the import.  I have an overall value with my original insurance - but they want an itemised value. None of this mentioned when storage handling and fees were discussed on arrival of  the shipment.

Is anyone familiar with this practice?    Any comments/advice would be  appreciated.
