Recent D7 experience

Susan here...as mentioned in my introductory post, I had an uneventful experience and had my approval in roughly 4 weeks. Gringovenmex asked me to share more details in this feed as most don't read the "Introduce Yourself" feed. So here goes:, I'm in Chicago (USA), and applied to the Embassy in DC (jurisdiction that covers my state), on 30th June and received my D7 visa on 3rd Aug. I followed the exact steps on VFS and had no issues whatsoever. I did not open an online bank account in PT and don't yet have a NIF. I actually called VFS when I read this on EE and was told I didn't need to do this as part of the visa application process as I was going directly to the Embassy, rather than a consulate. Not sure why the requirements would differ, but didn't press the issue. I didn't need to go into the embassy, as I handled everything though Fedex overnight delivery (both the initial application, then sending my passport once I received the approval email). I do have family (not immediate) in PT that provided a letter of accommodation for me for the first few months, which I'm sure was helpful. I used some of Susan Stults Korthasethe suggestions in her article on what to include in my personal statement. I was very explicit in my personal statement about why I was moving, my plans to rent for a year, then purchase in due course, current and future income. I submitted my application 2 days after my 51st birthday, therefore I don't have pension income, but had enough demonstrable liquid assets to fully meet the financial requirement (3x the monthly income requirement and substantial savings). I hope this helps those currently applying, best of luck!
