Portugal Government Corruption

The best way to scare away investors and retirees is exactly what happened lately with the 2024 budget NHR removal and the corruption in the socialist party prime minister and few others.....It's one thing to say people will still come to Portugal even without NHR because of the country low cost of living (not true in some regions), food, weather, people, etc but corruption is a scary word. Talking about the NHR, if at least the real reason to remove it was mentioned instead of blaming the NHR for the house and rental price increase. House price increase around the world was caused by the extremly low interest rate in the last 10 years + Covid that made people moving around working remotely. Rental price increase around the world was caused by short term rental (Airbnd, Booking.com, etc) where owners prefer doing short term rental rather than having a long term tenant with all the laws not always in owners favor. Also, renting a few months a year will generate more revenues than a long term rental. NHR as nothing to do with what the government said and removing the NHR is their decision but please, use the real reason that will make the government more credible! The Golden Visa removal, in my opinion, was necessary since it required a foreigner to spend only 7 days per year to get their citizenship after 5 years. A 7 days a year stay doesn't contribute in the Portugal economy besides increasing the house pricing since some foreigners didn't care to pay more for the Golden Visa property to get an European passport after 5 years. These foreigners, not all of them, bought a passport. Portugal still a beautiful country to move in but Portugal should not "sit on one's laurels" and continue to improve with the right economic decisions.
