Living in Tavira.

The research we've done so far keeps pointing us back to Tavira as a goog place to live without feeling like you live in a tourist attraction. We have also read about it being too quiet and isolated in the winter. Looking for any recommendations for a good year round town that doesn't get too overrun in the high season?
