I am considering a position at IBM Qatar. I've heard and seen references to expat compounds. What are these like? When I hear compound I think of something like "Hogan's Heroes". What is it like living in a compound? Is it necessary to live in a compound? Does living in a compound mean you can apply western values on behaviour, dress, etc..?
