Residence Permit Renewal

My wife was delayed in returning from a trip overseas and landed in Doha a few days after her Resident Permit expired. She is now in Qatar on a visiter's visa.

Has anyone had experience on the process of renewing the Permit after it already expired under these circumstances? My employer's PRO THINKS that she has to apply for a new RP from scratch. Surely not?
