I am a Canadian certified teacher in my 9th month of a 12 month contract in South Korea. I have loved the overseas experience but am ready to move on to a new contract. I have the travel bug now and just want to experience life.
I have been approached by a very reputable school in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia and also a well respected school in Salwa, Kuwait. Both two year contracts and that is not an issue in the least. I have been told that the school in Kuwait provides an apartment just down the street from the school but not in a compound. The school in Saudi is in a very lovely compound with a villa. My biggest concern at this point is safety so my question to anyone who may be able to help is....where do you think I will feel comfortable but also fullfilled regarding a teaching assignment. I am leaning to Saudi because of the western amenities within the compound but not sure of the culture itself. I hear Kuwait is more tolerable. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
One of my goals while working in the Middle East is to travel to other countries on mini vacations, see as much as possible. Is travel accessible from Saudi at a reasonable price? Places within Europe, Bahrain, Greece, and such.
I just don't want to flip a coin to decide a contract. Need as much information as possible and where better to look than with other expats.
