residence/work permits

hi - I am wanting to relocate to spain next fall so I can apply for citizenship after a year (my grandfather is spanish), but I am a self-employed artist here in the states, and the "self-employment" permits and requirements do not apply to me (you must prove you will create new jobs for nationals and have 60,000euros in the bank - ha! I am a one-woman venture -- www.DoniaLilly.com)

anyway, I know I can't change the type of permit I have once I am there, but that I also cannot receive a work permit before I go unless I have a job from a company ahead of time, etc etc...

so any suggestions on how I can swing this? is it possible to find work once there? what if I was living in la linea and working in gibraltar - would I need a uk or a spanish work permit? how would that work with the spanish gov't? would I be "unemployed" in spain?

any suggestions, hints, info would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
donia
