Moving to Valencia, or outside, need advice on area

Does anybody have any advice on good, safe neighbourhoods in Valencia that won't break the bank, or any villages no more than 30 mins from Valencia that are well populated by expats, but not overexploited?

My wife and I are moving from London to Torrevieja initially, we have a town house there, but want to buy something in the area of Valencia in the near future.

My wife's American, however I'm Swedish, so anyone that have experiences with US/Spain relocation issues that they could share, would be much appreciated as well
