Work Permit Spain

My husband has dual UK/USA citizenship--I have USA. We are considering a move to Spain next year. I know that my husband can automatically get a work permit as an EU member citizen, but I do not know what my status will be. Although, I do intend to consult a UK immigration attorney before doing any paperwork, I was wondering if anyone has gone through this themselves. I am not sure if I will have to go through the UK and apply for a work permit there first, or can do this directly with Spain. If I do need to go through the UK, will that work permit automatically be legitimate in Spain, or are there further steps?

The area we are focusing on is Barcelona and surrounds, and though I have read all of the posts here, I may request advice/info from some of the local experts.
