Barcelona rental - any other ways besides using agents?

Hi there:

I will be arriving in Barcelona to live in the next few weeks and need to to rent a studio or 1-bedroom apartment.

Are there any ways to try and find an apartment besides using estate agents? Keen to avoid them, if possible. Perhaps a local paper or other possible means?

Please let me know if you have any advice.
