I wonder if someone can kindly give me some advice re healthcare in Spain please?
I’ve read many articles and the information seems to differ a lot.
I’ve also read that private health insurance costs, a month, are approx. 200 to 300 Euros per person in their 50’s, 500 Euros for a family of four, and 800 Euro’s for a retired couple. However, an article on the Internet, from a company called Spain Made Simple, states that it’s about 800 Euro’s a year, for a couple in their 50’s for private health insurance – per month, or per year, that’s one huge difference.
1. If we become Permanent Residents in Spain, owning our own home and paying property taxes, as well as paying taxes on our private pensions, will we be able to contribute to the public Spanish Health Care system after one year of living in Spain? (We will not be working, so we will not be paying social security contributions).
2. Re the Spanish Health Care System, I have heard that prescriptions are capped at 18 Euro’s a month; but I have also read that if you earn (pension or otherwise) over 18,000 Euro’s a year, then you have to pay 50% of the medicine’s cost – which is it, does anyone know? (Or is neither correct)
3. For Private Health Care, I have read that both Sanitas and Adeslas are good companies to use – does anyone have feedback on these companies? I am aware that Sanitas is a branch of BUPA.
We are British (so we are also currently European) but we are not living in the UK right now.
