Non-Lucrative Visa Renewal & Paying Taxes

For the Non Lucrative Visa, you get it for the first year. Then you have to reapply to get it renewed for two more years. In order to get it renewed for two more years (ad in finitum), is the candidate expected to pay Spanish taxes?

(I understand you are only expected to pay taxes if residing in the country for 183+days)
