flying with cats in cabin

Thank you so much for all your responses in the last few days in the previous post. Our non-lucrative visa applications are approved from Houston Consulate!!!
The visas will take another 1-2 weeks and they will notify us when the visas are ready.

Our next big task is to move us and the two cats to Granada. Please bear with us as we will have lots of questions and want to pick your guys' brain for those who have walked this path before.

Has anyone moved a cat to Spain in a cabin? Should I fly to a big airport like Madrid or a smaller one like Malaga? I seem to recall that it is better to fly into a smaller airport.

And what airline would you recommend? Has anyone fly with Air France / Delta / United / KLM? They all allow cats in cabin so I just wonder. I heard a lot of good things on Lufthansa if you want to put your pets in cargo but since we are taking them in a cabin with us. I am thinking any airline should be fine unless there is something I am missing?

Also since it is a long flight, how did you handle food/water/cat litter issue over 10+ hours travel?

Thank you!!
