"Farang" prices

How bad is the "Farang" prices and how do you deal with that? I realize non-Thais, particularly those of us from the US/West are often charged more than locals for certain things. How often does that happen? How do you handle it? There is an assumption we are ALL multi-millionaires with tons of spare cash to give away but some of us are simply comfortable without the millions and millions to share.
