purpose of Thai visa agents and are they necessary?

Honest question after reading another thread. Why does Thailand have so many visa agencies? Truly, I don't get this, as previously I have spent time in Malaysia and Vietnam and you never need visa agents for anything. Except for Vietnam before the agents were required for VOA. But now that is also finished because you get the evisa for 90 days from the government directly.

Why does Thailand still obsessed with visa agents? Didn't they also have an evisa system already?
