Dear members of Expatexchange,
On the 12th of September new parliamentary elections will take place in the Netherlands. As an "International Dutch citizen” you are of high importance to the Netherlands – whether you are an expat who has returned, a Dutch citizen with a foreign partner or a newly naturalized Dutch citizen. What stands out is that in your personal situation, you simultaneously act and live in multiple countries and cultures.
Both Dutch citizens abroad as well as newly naturalized Dutch citizens living in the Netherlands should be able to hold on to their original nationality when they choose to adopt a second one. Moreover, the procedure to return to the Netherlands after having spent a number of years abroad should be simplified, especially for Dutch citizens with a partner from another country. Lastly, regulations for former Dutch citizens who wish to regain their Dutch citizenship must be eased. Your added value as an international Dutch citizen to Dutch society should be higher on the political agenda!
These and a number of other, related issues form the main motive behind Eelco Keij’s candidacy for Dutch Parliament (number 25, D66): please see also www.EelcoKeij.com. Please cast your preferential vote for Eelco, for now and for future generations.
Eelco Keij, D66, Number 25 – for international Dutch people worldwide!
On behalf of the campaign team,
Maarten Broekhof
