When my husband and I moved to the Netherlands it was just before the full travel ban came in in 2020. However we registered at the Gemeente and later I applied for the right to remain after Brexit. That all went through fine. My husband submitted his papers at the same time and as he is from Iceland he did not need to apply for the right to remain.
Okay so recently (after more than a year of living here) my husband received a letter stating his documents are incorrect. This seemed strange since the marriage certificate is exactly the same one which was accepted for me but isn't accepted for him. They are stating that the birth certificate and marriage certificate need to have 'apostille' stamps on them. They refuse to accept the Icelandic government official stamped certificates because they don't specifically say apostille on them. The same with the British government marriage certificate.
Please can anyone advise how we can proceed as the Gemeente just keeps saying 'apostille' apostille, repeating louder and louder but without explaining how we are supposed to get the Iceland and British governments to do this.
Any advice gratefully received.
