Work visa for the self-employed vs. relocation to TNT

HEllo,

I am moving to Trinidad next year but so far, the responses to my inquiries from the Consulates and Embassies have been less than welcome.

Since I am self-employed (I am a writer and have published bookos), applying for a work visa is irrelevant. Yet one is required and the consulate told me that I can't just up adn move to Trinidad because I feel like it, and expect residency to be granted. I would need ties in TNT (e.g. job, husband, children, etc).

They also told me that IF the NAtional Ministry of Security deemed me worthy of staying in TNT, I would need to put up an $11,000 US security bond.

How do expatriates do it that have no actual ties there? Do you just go for a visit and never leave?

Thank you for your assistance.
