Female relocating alone soon

I am moving to work in the Laventille area soon. I am a single female. I will have a car, can anyone tell me what areas I should be looking for a place to live? A friend of a friend has offered me a one bed to rent in Bamboo Settlement no 2, Valsayan which seems to be about 15 mins from work. Is that a safe area for me to consider? Would appreciate some insight as obviously safety and crime are high on my concern.
