I'm looking to buy a second hand car in Uganda as soon as possible. I'm based in Kampala.
I've looked around and had a few test-drives, and in an ideal world I'll be buying a Short wheelbase (3 door) manual transmission Rav4. Although if the right car came along, I'll definitely consider other models/makes.
So, apart from buying from one of the dozens of bonded warehouses on the Jinja road (and elsewhere), can anyone let me know where second hand cars are advertised and sold? I can't really find where there are any details of cars for sale. Surely Ugandans and ex-pats must be selling and buying 2nd hand cars all the time, right? So why can't I find them?
I'd prefer to buy an already registered car over an imported car in a bond because:
1) It's cheaper. Rav4s are going for ~15 million from a warehouse against ~12 million from a local
2) There's the outside possibility that a 2nd hand car may even have some documentation and/or service history, wheras none of the Bonded warehouse vehicles have any documentation at all.
3) I can take a 2nd hand car out for a test-drive, rather than the 20 meter drive up and down the bond carpark, which is all they'll let me do.
4) All the cars in the warehouses need new tyres, which is another USH1,000,000/= stright away.
So unless anybody can disabuse me of any of these notions and convince me to buy from a bonded warehouse, I'll be eternally grateful to anyone who can let me in on the secret of where Ugandans and ex-pats sell their cars, cos I can't find it.

ps- also, if anyone knows the name and number of a good mechanic who I can pay to look over a Toyota Rav4 for me, I'd be very grateful for that as well.
