Canadian iphone use in Uganda

Hello,

I will be moving to Kampala in August and would like to know if anyone has any experience bringing their unlocked North American iphones to Uganda and finding a local cell phone carrier that have compatible micro sim cards. Its nice to have my iphone on me to keep in touch with imessage contacts back home over wifi networks etc.

I just want to know if I can use my iphone for basic texts and calls while in Kampala as well.
