Hi,
I have been doing an immense amount of research on Dubai and I feel like I already live there. I already see myself sitting on the beach in Jumeirah, cruising the malls, sliding down wild wadi and shopping in the souks!
I run a successful internet business from home (U.S.) and am fortunate enough to be able to work from anywhere in the world as long as I have a fast Internet connection.
I am planning an exploratory trip with my family (Wife and 5 yr old daughter) in about 4 - 5 months so we can see if Dubai will be the right place for us. We want to visit some schools while there and so far it looks like it will be the two American schools (ACS and Dubai American Academy)
Speaking of ACS, does anyone who works there (expatmich) know how long the waiting list is and if we should just apply there for the following year. My daughter will be starting 1st grade by then. And while we're at it, my wife was a 7th grade teacher in California (U.S. history, ESL and computers) and may be interested in teaching at one of the American Schools. It's not that she needs a job, but it beats sitting home and watching cable TV all day or becoming a lifetime member of the gold souk! :-) Should she apply for a job in one of these schools far in advance?
It would also be a great way to get into the community. We're both very involved in our daughter's school .. organizing field trips, fund raisers, PTO etc.
Dubai's new foreign ownership law for real estate is one of the biggest draws for deciding to relocate there. While there we want to visit some of the new developments (probably near Jumeriah) and will probably put a deposit down on a property with an expected date of completion in 2005/2006. This way I can get the ball rolling on the permanent Visa for myself and the family.
Can anyone recommend any projects that are in the works? Is the best method of purchasing to go directly to the developer or use a real estate agent?
I have been looking at the JBR project (www.jbr.ae) and it looks amazing. How do these prices compare to the rest of Dubai? If I purchase an apartment here, will I expect my neighbors to be families with kids or are these properties that investors grab and turn into vacation rentals for tourists?
I'm looking for a new construction since most of these come with high speed internet which is my lifeline.
Thanks in advance.
Sam
