Are cinemas popular?

I am soon to be moving to Dubai and would like to know if cinemas get much attention there? I am mainly looking to go so that I can watch Guardians of the Galaxy that looks set to be a really good film about a manhunt but want to know if I have to watch it before leaving the UK or if I can watch it within Dubai.
