How far will our money go?

My wife and I have a job offer to relocate to London for a couple of years. Unfortunately, it's not a traditional expat package in that housing is not covered. The only thing that is covered is our move there and back, our car including insurance and that's pretty much it.

After conversions and income tax it nets out that we will have roughly 2,500 pounds a month to spend on everything we need to live. Our question is can we live comfortably with some ability to travel on that much money a month? We would likely live in Windsor as opposed to London proper because that is where the office is located. This also assumes my wife not working because a work visa might be an issue for her.

In comparison, we currently live in Portland, OR with income a little over $100,000, with no kids. We don't necessarily have to live at the exact same level, but we'd rather not have to dip into savings during our time in London. Thanks.
