Hospitals - moving & expecting

My husband and I will be moving back to England next month (for the 2nd time in 3 years). From previous experience, and from local friends' experiences, I am terrified (and pretty appalled I have to say) by UK hospitals & health services. We will have BUPA (private) insurance this time, but no idea how to find a GP or OB/Gyn, which we will need.

Can anyone reccommend a hospital for labour & delivery in or around London? Is there a doctor listing service to find out credentials and who's accepting new patients? Anyone out there actually given birth in a UK hospital?
