Shortage Occupations

Since for most of us, those who aren't Engineering and Medical geniuses (and those of us who don't qualify for the HSMP or any other program), Teaching seems to be our only option. I've written the Home Office to ask about this, but if anyone here knows and can help, that'd be brilliant. I'm thinking of either going back to school and getting a grad. degree in Education or even enrolling in the NYC Teaching Fellows Program. Are teachers basically sure things when trying to get work in England and being granted a work permit? Are work permits required for those who go over as teachers? If so, are the time limitations the same or are they allowed a sort of indefinite leave to remain?
