Does a past bankruptcy affect immigration?

Does anyone know if a past personal bankruptcy in the US will affect immigration to the UK?

Unfortunately, I have a large credit card debt from my college years and am considering my options, including filing for personal bankruptcy. But I also have a dream to eventually live and work in the UK, and I don't want to jeopardize that at all.

I'd really appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.
