find me a home

i'm moving from nyc to london in a few months. looking for suggestions on areas where i should consider living. here's the rundown:
currently living in the east village of new york. love the convenience of the subway, stores, entertainment, restaurants, etc.
in london, proximity to the tube is very important. i'll be commuting to liverpool st for work. looking for a 2 bedroom, can spend up to ~£750/wk to rent. liked the areas of s. ken/chelsea but don't necessarily want to be with all americans. any other suggestions? tube, pubs, shopping are more important that a quiet, residential neighborhood.
