Advice re. used cars?

17 years ago
I'm going to be attending business school in Warwick in September and will be living off campus. Since classes often run very late at night, and the buses take about 40 mins to get to where I'll be living, I've been thinking about buying an old banger car to get me to school every day. Has anyone done anything like this? What was the experience like? Were their hidden pitfalls? What kind of money am I looking at? Any advice on this would be very helpful.
