Affordable London neighborhood with a lot going on?

Hi all,

I may have the opportunity to take my dream job, and it happens to be in London. Moving my new family to London is a *huge* deal.

One thing we're concerned about is living somewhere affordable while still having access to lots of stuff... a vibrant but affordable community. I'd be at work all day, but it might take my wife awhile to find a job and she'd like to be able to walk out the door and be able to easily get somewhere fun with our 3 month-old daughter.

In terms of affordable, the salary I'll likely be offered is 55k UKP.
