Calling from mobile phone to U.S.

I am moving to London in January and wondered if anyone has advice on a cell phone/calling plan to use to call the U.S. (to either a landline or cell). Seems it's much pricier to call from or to a cell. I'll have a business cell phone but will need another to call the U.S. Someone mentioned buying pre-paid minutes from Carphone Warehouse?

Also, if anyone has advice on the best options for US based people to reach us on a mobile in the UK that would be very helpful.
