Company wants to choose our housing

My husband and I just found out that his company wants to relocate us from the US to the UK. It would most likely be a 1-year assignment. They said that they would find housing for us so we wouldn't have to worry about it. While I appreciate the gesture, I'm a bit uncomfortable with them choosing it for us. I want to be sure that we have enough space, that it's in a safe location, that it's close enough to conveniences like grocery stores and the gym, etc.

We haven't negotiated a contract yet, but I'm assuming that they would be paying for the apartment. They have not mentioned a look-see trip for us to see the housing and area before leaving.

I did some preliminary research, and nothing I've read (including posts on this forum) has mentioned a company choosing housing for the employee. Has anyone ever heard of a company offering to do this? Any thoughts as to how it might work out?
