Student Dependent Visas

I recently got married and my husband has been accepted to a 1-year program at SOAS. I'm planning to move to London with him.

I would also like to work while there. However, though I have started the job search process, I don't yet have an offer in hand. Based on the advice on your forum, it seems unlikely that I'll be able to move to London and then find a job and get a work permit on my own.

However, I haven't been able to figure out if I can work as a student dependent if my husband's program of study lasts 1 year -- meaning the exact duration is a bit less than 12 months -- because the UK visa websites I've seen all mention a cutoff of "12 months or more".

Also, does he have to be in the UK first, and I go later? Or can we both apply together?

Any advice on this would be appreciated.
