Resettling in England

I would like to make some enquiries about settling in the Buxton area, why Buxton, well a friend of mine for many years moved there and recommended the area to me.
I left the UK in 1968, to work overseas and now after almost 41 years I have decided, if possible to settle again in my home country. I have no known relatives left in England and I was born in Murton, County Durham in 1939, I am still working in mechanical engineering with a Danish company on a cement factory in Vietnam. What I would like find out is almost everything about settling back into the English way of life, what I know now about England is next to nothing. I hope you can advise me or steer me in the right direction on what to do? If all goes well I would like to return the end of this year, hoping to hear from you soon.
