Overwhelmed!

We have just landed in the UK. We arrived on Thursday and nothing seems right. My husband was supposed to be transferred here on a status of forces agreement. But when we got to immigrations, they gave him a limited stamp and my son and I nothing. While he is to be working here for two years, right now, I cannot work, nor can my son attend school. Simple things such as getting a cell phone or the like is impossible. I left a high paying position in the US to come here and be treated as a criminal. We can't get credit (despite the fact we have flawless credit in the US), can't get a cell phone unless we pay cash on a monthly basis. I am afraid to drive, or even cross the street.

The scary thing is that I am normally great at acclimating myself to different surroundings, because as a road warrior (I am/was?? a computer consultant). Now I feel as if I am in a free fall and all I want to do is go home! Is this normal?
