moving to UK for a year or two

My husband is a self-employed attorney in the US and we are considering the possibility of moving abroad in 3-5 years. I am just starting my research and trying to get a sense of how realistic our plan is. So, the plan is to stay in the UK for a year (maybe two) and he would continue to practice law for his clients in the US. I am self-employed artist, so I would also just do freelance work. By the way, how would that work from tax/legal standpoint for me to create and sell my artwork in the UK? What type (if any) of visa would we need to apply for, since we would be staying beyond the time of a "vacation", but would not be working for any companies in the UK?
