How are Americans received in the UK?

15 years ago
I've been told that, in the UK, American expats aren't received as warmly as tourists. I would be interested to know if that is the general perception among expats. My family and I considered moving to the UK for a year, but now I'm thinking we might just visit for a summer (seems an easier way to go, anyway - no visa, work, school issues.)
