Relocating to UK from US with Small Dog

I am moving to the UK from Texas and bringing my small (5 lb) Yorkie with me. I'm terrified to fly with him in cargo because he is so small and fragile. Plus, I can only imagine how terrifying that will be for him to fly that way for 10+ hours. I know flights directly into the UK require pets to fly in cargo, but other countries in the EU allow you to fly pets in cabin if they are small enough. Does anyone have experience or feedback on flying from the US to France or Amsterdam (so he can fly in cabin) then taking a ferry or train into England? I will be sure he has his pet passport, microchip, rabies shot, etc. so not skipping any of that. I just need an alternate way to get him there with me other than in cargo. Thank you!!
