Uruguayan citizenship

Could someone with first hand experience please tell me if you must renounce your previous citizenship in order to take Uruguayan citizenship?
Also, is it realistic to expect Uruguayan citizenship without a clearly defined government or similar pension from back home, regardless of personal wealth or skill?
Any other comments on attaining citizenship would be appreciated.
