Renting in Feb

Question for you locals. We are renting our beach house in Punta Colorada in January, they want to extend the rental into mid-February for a decreased rent, saying that it is customary to pay less rent in February. Our friends in Montevideo, say that rent will be higher in February because of Carnaval. Does Carnaval have impact in areas around Piriapolis and Punta Colorada? Would it be typical to accept less rent? Thanks for the help!
