New vehicle payment options

A big thank you to everyone that responded to my question about small pick-up trucks. Now after reading threads about banking and transferring money issues I'm wondering how one goes about actually paying for a vehicle if you buy one new at the dealer? I am an american citizen so has anyone from the states purchased a new vehicle and if you did how did you work out the payment?
