After some tough times in the UK me and my Uruguayan wife have decided to move back to Uruguay with our son and dog.
I am British and lived in MVD for 10 years, married and had a son in Uruguay. 4 years ago we were both made redundant and decided to relocate back to UK. Tough visa process and expensive for my wife.
My wife made lots of new friends quickly but struggled so much with the weather and culture. Also missing her big close family too much. The last 12 months have just been too tough for her and we've made the tough choice of returning. our last visit this Easter was the nail. Just that feeling with the family again made us make the final choice. That family bond just doesn't exist for us in the UK. My son's cousins are like siblings for him and he's suffered also being without them and his grandparents/aunties/uncles etc.
Our biggest concern is the cost. So expensive at the moment. We've got just enough capital to buy a 3 bedroom flat somewhere in pocitos or somewhere similar without getting into mortgages. After some time seeing how our finances stretch then we'll look into getting a mortgage to move into a house a but further out of MVD. Didn;t really want to move back into the flat environment but its a sacrifice we'll make. Currently we rent a small 2 bedroom house in a lovely area in Staffs. gardens, driveways, 2 cars etc. Will be a big change but this is all superficial when you don't have that Uruguayan family feel with you.
Now we have to start planning. Our first concern is how to bring our sensitive dog with us (cavapoo). Such a journey!.
